Experience matters

Working knowledge of the office from the ground up.

Jacob Tate has served in the Yakima County Assessor's Office for more than 30 years, beginning in entry-level work and advancing through operational, technical, valuation, and leadership roles before becoming Assessor in 2023.

That matters because this office is not simply administrative. It requires understanding valuation standards, property records, state reporting, public communication, software systems, tax district interactions, exemptions, appeals, the Washington State Constitution, relevant statutes and the daily work required to keep the office functioning efficiently.

Jacob's background combines hands-on office experience, technical modernization work, professional appraisal standards, and a service-focused approach to public administration.

Fair and Consistent Assessments

The Assessor's responsibility is to value property fairly and consistently under Washington law.

Modernization and Efficiency

Jacob has helped build internal databases, reporting systems, and tools that support aging core systems while improving efficiency and public access.

Accessible Communication

Taxpayers deserve clear explanations about values, appeals, exemptions, levy trends, and what the Assessor's Office does and does not control.

Modernization and public access

Practical tools that help taxpayers access information.

Practical modernization matters in an office responsible for complex valuation systems, property records, exemptions, levy administration, and public information.
